SootSinker
WaterDrop silencers typically reduce soot from the exhaust gas discharge. In this process the soot becomes entrained in the raw water discharge flow, but in some cases it rises to the surface and collects to create a nuisance. The Soundown solution was to invent a passive device called the "SootSinker". The SootSinker is a cylindrical device that is installed in the raw water discharge line downstream from the WaterDrop and at an elevation just below DWL. The SootSinker is fitted with a gas vent to draw away entrained gas to the silencer shell. Internally it is baffled to saturate the soot in the water flow thus allowing it to sink away from the discharge rather than rise to the surface.
